1. Don't join the Adsense program merely for the earning. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme. It will take some time and (sometimes painful) effort to get nice income from Adsense.
2. Don't ever click your own ads or encourage your family, relative or your visitors to click on them. 3. Don't ignore the idea to disable Adsense ads for your own IP address and local geographic area. 4. Any other don'ts? |

That's a good start.
I have a "Do" to add to the list though: Go watch the recordings of my live show where I talk all about starting up an AdSense or affiliate business: Adsense Marketing & Affiliate Marketing: Recorded Training From My Live Show | Bill McIntosh

Well, make sure the content included in the site periodically agrees with the Google TOS, further if the content nature is not in the user agreement Google would cancel your account.

I would have another DO for your list. Be sure to experiment with placement and with different color schemes as they can make a big difference to your CTR and therefor your earnings.

Can someone explain to me exactly what this following phrase means? "Don't ignore the idea to disable Adsense ads for your own IP address and local geographic area. " and why it should or should not be done?

I know that for Joomla and Wordpress for example there is a tool which will allow for you to block your ads when you are visiting your own sites so that there is not change of you accidentally clicking on your own ads and thereby risking getting removed from the Adsense program.
