Default .info deserves the price?

As far as I know, the cheapest domain names is the ones having extension .info. While other extensions cost around $9, we can get a domain.info for $1.99. Do you think it deserves being the cheapest? Will the rate remains the same in the future, means .info will get undervalued in the future?

I think .infos will remain fairly cheap. However, I've heard it's harder to get a .info ranking well in Google.

After all, if you aren't willing to invest $9 to start a business: Google may not take you seriously.

Hi Bill,

I have build around 100 different sites on .info domains and all often them have been ranking well in the SERPS. I think that you are better off having a keyword rich .info domain then some .com domain which is not really relevant.

If it really comes down to a choice between a lame sounding .com and a nice .info: I'd take the .info too. I have a few single word dictionary .infos I'm running on my own sites. So I do use them if it makes sense.

However, I've managed to find a .com for every major site I've launched recently. So while it might take work to discover one, but good .com's are out there.

I still think .infos are harder to get ranking (but not impossible). Even just from my casual experience as a Google user: I very rarely see a .info on page one while I'm searching.

I also know a lot of blackhats burn through cheap .infos by the thousands and I'm sure that's playing into why Google may not "trust" .infos as much initially.

I love the 99 cent .info's and have not had any trouble ranking on google! I ranked #1 for "black hat is back 2 review" (out of almost 2 million results) within a week of setting up the site! (link in sig). This was a brand new, off the shelf domain. Indexed quickly and ranked quickly. I believe it is the content that gets the rankings and not the extension.

.info's were big around a year and a half ago when many were making BANS sites. But now that those sites have been sandboxed quite frequently, the .info boom has lost a little steam.
