I've recently published several blog sites (free hosting by the provider) which has some great articles that contain a lot of keywords related to the main topic. However, I noticed the blogs don't show up on search engines at all (I posted them 3 days ago) unless I type the exact title of an article... why? I have other websites that show up in google quite easily, but none of my blogs do.
I have another website (private, paid hosting) in a different genre that has been looming on search page number 1-3 on google for the past 4 years and maintains a good top position. This site too contains articles similar to my blog site but on another topic. Does google filter our blog sites, or what could be the reason? I personally can't see anything wrong in the articles posted on them. |

Emarketing: Free blog sites can rank extremely well. In fact, if done right they can outrank your own domain on competitive terms.
I've used free blog hosts to "own" most of page 1 & 2 of Google for some pretty good keyword terms. The trick is that you need to use good tags & get inbound links pointing to your free blogs. If you do that, you should have no problem getting most of them to rank. One thing to watch out for though are the free blog hosts that are small, new or who are hosting questionable content from other bloggers. If the bloghost is associated with a bunch of web spam: you'll have a real hard time getting anything to rank on that free blog host. Quote:

Hi Bill! Great videos, great posts by you. Thanks a bunch!
I recently read that blogsites have zero tolerance for commercial content. They will remove the whole site if the content seem like advertisement or marketing of any product or service. One service had removed over 300,000 sites of service content or commercial content. |

If you use a service like XOOMblogs.com (free wordpress hosting) the answer is an affirmative YES.
Any site worth it's salt allows you to use subdomains (hotbabes.xoomblogs.com for example) or better yet, map your own domain to their servers. I've been using XOOMblogs.com for a while now with my own domain names and I have two PR4 sites hosted there. And the best news is. It's free. Now, I do keep an offsite backup just in case they die, and I own my domain so I could easily move it to another WP hosting site over night. But the simple answer is yes. You can certainly accomplish what you're trying to do with a free hosting service. IF... and that's important... IF you use the right service. |

If you use free blogs or properties, it should mostly be to redirect traffic to your landing pages. However, if you are serious about having an online business, you should own your own site or domain otherwise it will make you look like an amateur. And with hosting companies like godaddy or hostgator that charge less than $10 per month to host a domain it's really not that expensive to show your visitors that you are professional.
