One of the useful methods I had found for improving page rankings and SEO is that of article submission. I used to write articles which concentrates on general topics and the topics related to my site and submit them to the free article submission sites.

Members who use my article have also use my website links at the end of it, there by increasing the backlinks as well as the traffic to my site.

I am not real familiar with article directories and how they work. So, tell me if I have this right. - You write an article- a general article but focused on the keywords used in your site? and then throw a link in it for your site and allow others to use the general article?

Yes you are right. Article writing and submission is a great way to get targeted visitors to your site and also to get some really good backlinks. But your articles should be very useful and should be of high quality other wise there will be high chances of its rejection.

Could someone take a moment to list some good article sites? Or a directory of article sites? As someone new to this, it's difficult to know where to start, and how to get the best result for your effort.

I think the most popular article site is ezinearticles.com. There are other article sites which go further. Not only publishing your articles, they will also allow you to place your adsense account on the pages containing your articles. You ads will get (for instance) 50% of total view to appear on the pages.

I have also done a lot of article submissions in the past but it seems that Google is no longer giving you much credit for this type of SEO work.

article and regular web directory submissions both seem to be a waste of time for Google now.. I believe social media sites such as digg, will also do no good soon.

I don't agree that article marketing is a waste of time.

I use it successfully & encourage everyone else to do that too.

yeah that's definitely a weak point for me. i need to start writing some articles. it's not like i don't have anything to say. i can be teaching people different techniques in various artistic mediums minimally... i post to my own blog, and i've written articles for others, but never for myself. thanks for the reminder.

the key is get your content squirmed about through the search engines and making your site links more visible. I use Qondio for all of my really good article builds and my directory has become fruitful for those linking to client's sites.
