How do you increase your web traffic?

Driving traffic to your website is probably the thing that you spend the most time on, aside from adding new content to your actual pages. There are hundreds of ways to drive traffic but I mainly utilize the search engines, link exchanging and submitting to directories.

What methods do you use?

What I implement to get traffic for my blog is

1-Using yahoo search marketing for targeted traffic.
2-Using social bookmarking site such as myspace and facebook.
3-Using tag and ping method
4-Using my high traffic blog as proxy to new blog gain more visitors.

I get nearly all my traffic from the SERPS and the only thing that I do is basically keep adding new pages with fresh content around specific keywords.

My main ways are Article submissions, Forum Posting/Signatures and Social Bookmarking. My least favorite of all is Directory submissions.

In my view now a days more popular ways of increasing traffic is commenting on related blogs and video submissions into popular video sites like youtube. Article directories submission is also a nice way to get wider audience.

Don't forget that traffic is just half (or less) of the battle. Tweaking your site to increase conversion rates is as (or more) important. For example:

Let's say you are spending $100 a month and 20 hours of your time to generate traffic.

To double your sales you'll likely have to double your traffic & double your efforts to $200 in spending and 40 hours of work.

Or...

Just make the right tweak, test it for conversion rates & double your sales overnight with no extra spending or time!

One of the best method to improve traffic is consistently updating the content in the site and the second thing is to optimize the search engine ranking of the site.

The last thing is for link directory submission. Link directory submission won't work well in most of the cases.

Craigslist will bring targeted traffic to your website, just don't be a spammer. If you over post your IP could get black listed.
