Default Link Baiting

I was reading somewhere about something which was called link baiting. I not exactly sure what this is. Could someone please explain link baiting to me.

In short, 'link baiting' is posting something that will cause people to respond, either positively or negative on their own web site or blog linking back to you post getting you an instant link! At least this is my take on it. Does it actually work though? I believe it does. I used this technique on earthpro.info with a very good response! But, it is a heated topic and easy to step on toes!

In addition to what sheprd said - Basically, it's a link that points to your blog, article, video, downloadable file, etc. that people find of value from their site to yours.

So you can provide good content that people want to link to or inflammatory content that people want to reference and flame.

Hope this helps,

Artemis

An example of this is to post your AdSense earnings on Youtube. ( I know a guy who did something like this )

To make it simpler, it is a way to get other people interested in your content and use it. The people who syndicate your content usually put a link on your website as their resource. Its another effective way to go viral.
