Default Too much backlinking?

Is it possible to back link too much to the point where it actually drops your page ranking/SEO results? Be careful when back linking your site a dozen times from squidoo or a page creation program, your page rank may actually drop.

What happens is that your "link velocity" (the speed that you are building new links) goes up too fast, or drops down to fast.

So if you build up a bunch of links in a short time & then stop getting new links Google's algorithms see this as something unnatural and it can effect your rankings.

Google can end up penalizing you if you get too many "wrong" links too fast. Obviously if you have an interesting article on your site which gets picked up by many blogs then that would be ok.

How in the world can Goggle's algorithm separate the two sources with any reliable accuracy?

I have a feeling some people get penalized regardless of how a burst in traffic is achieved!

Very true, google will impose a penalty if you are creating back links too fast.More over its all about quality rather than quantity. having a back link from related 6PR website is more valuable than having back links from 1000 PR0 websites.

I myself try to build and randomize the same posts by about 4 times per week. Making the spiders go bonkers all over my pages.

Yuo, it has a high PR.
But hte process of backlinking on angela sites are quite so weak they are just profile linking and have no activity at all.
