I remember that a few years back it was very easy and quick to get listed on MSN and it was also rather easy to quickly rank well in the SERPS. It seems that this has changed. Has anyone else experienced this as well?

Just like everything else now everything is harder. Now that there are so many people online doing SEO and PR for there sites it is a saturated niche now. This does not mean it is not worth doing simply that it is harder and there are more and more guidelines constantly popping up. Again, just like everything else, when something starts out it is easier and simple. Once it grows into a main stream idea it becomes saturated and gets to a point where "people" have to step in and moderate and add new guidelines. I don't mean to sound redundant but "Yes" I agree that it has become harder to get and maintain PR with out risking a ban. Just keep at it and check out this site for some more unique tips that might help you out. To be successful now you just have to work a little more at it and think outside the box, but with in guidelines. Good Luck!

I've always had good luck using Live's site submit tool, at least for getting listed. As far as ranking, last I checked, MSN still heavily values incoming links. Also, having your keyword in your domain is a huge factor. You can rank for your domain name really, really easy in MSN, so if you can get a good keyword rich domain name, you should be ok.
