Which social media site is best - depends on what you want to accomplish and your demographic you are targeting.
Social Media are marketing tools. Each social media site is like a specialized tool. So to try to determine which is the best social media, is like asking which tool in the toolbox is the best? The best tool would depend on what you want to do with it. A hammer, saw, and drill are good for framing a wall. But if I were working on a car engine, I would rather use a socket set and wrenches. The same for social media. If I want to drive traffic to my restaurant - I might use Twitter for events, specials, coupons etc. also Facebook business page, and Foursquare/Gowalla. If I wanted to drive traffic to my consulting business, then I would use LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, a blog. The mix of social media used is important. Since social media is really just a marketing tool, it's important to learn how much of each social media tool (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc.) for the marketing campaign. Traditional marketing tools have been print media (newspapers, magazines, etc.) television, radio, direct mail, billboards, etc. Social media are really just more tools to add to the traditional tools. The mix of traditional media is important, and so is the mix of social media. Business owners are awestruck with social media and think it's hard to understand. It's really just additional tools they can use to market. Social Media tools are cheaper, and much more laser targeted than most other media. It also adds a much more interactive relationship with your customers and prospects compared to traditional media. Once you can convince a business owner, or yourself that social media are marketing tools -and you use the best tools for the campaign - then it becomes easier to make social media work for you or your client.

Twitter is one of the best social networking sites that can be use as a marketing tool to get a lot of traffic for your site. Just be active and be popular on this site. Facebook is really one of the best social networking site today in the net. I'm not sure but I know that it is the 2nd or the 3rd site that is most visited by internet users. So it is not a surprise that Facebook is very useful in marketing.
