Default Anyone used Second Life or There.com to promote a site?

Has anyone used Second Life or There.com as a way to gain traffic? We are about to launch a site aimed at High School students and I was thinking that establishing a presence on There.com might bring us some new clients.

You have to watch SL and there. They can really suck your time away but I'm doing some experimenting with SL, been on there like a year and a half maybe 2. Lol SL was my first internet income source. Head of promotions for a nightclub on there, made ok but it was a fun learning experience for the most part. It's what lead me into online marketing.

I have never played Second Life. How could you promote your websites through them?

The same way you would when working with any social media site. You can add your website inside your profile, place ads within the SL database, make friends, and so on. Think of it as a walking, talking, virtual MySpace.

SL also has its own search engine system but, to this date, there are no keyword research tools available for it. With that being said, advertising can be very hit or miss. ONLY devote the time to experimenting with it if you are willing spend hours and days to test, retest, then test again without any tools and still have a high possibility of seeing little to no return on your time or money invested.

I'm not trying to scare anyone off from the idea, I just don't want anyone to go in with high expectations and be disappointed in return.

Yes it can be fun but don't let it consume you You might see some good results if you are promoting your artwork. Things that tend to work well in SL are Music / Art / Nightlife Culture.

Thanks for the reply's. I think, with everything else there is to do in launching a new venture, that I'll forego the SL thing for now. I certainly don't have several hours a day to invest in something that may or may not send me traffic.

Sorry but I don't yet use this sites but if you really want to gain more traffic towards your site, I think you should use social media like Facebook and twitter.
