Squidoo's traffic doesn't perform? With squidoo, about 1 in 100 at most lenses are successful at bringing in traffic. Most users understand that the site is geared towards self promoting reviews and are turned off by the idea. On the other hand, Squidoo is still an okay choice for affiliate marketing because it may end up in a single or couple sales.

The thing with Squidoo is that you must treat it like a page you'd put on your own site.
Without: correct keyword research, picking a lot of good targeted tags, decent content of some kind & backlinks a Squidoo lens will not generate much traffic or sales.

I've been reading a lot about the value of Squidoo in marketing as well and have setup a number of lens. It is not clear to me whether I should have several lens with different keyword groups or stuff lots of keywords into one lens. Should I always add in the search terms that Squidoo tells me people came to the page with?
As to backlinks, I've been doing several articles using Ezinearticles and articlebase and several posts on Wordpress blogs. Sometimes I've done weebly, tumblr, and Wetpaint sites linking back to Squidoo and also to the page I'm promoting. I'm still not doing very well in trying to get some free traffic. I've tried to target keywords and tried to find words getting decent levels of search yet not overrun with people competing for them. All this and still I get only 4 or 5 visits a day to the Squidoo and the same to the site I'm trying to promote. What am I missing? |

Squidoo was a webmaster's milk and honey when it first came out. But now the traffic value is prety much nothing since G devalued all of these pages.

It depends on how you define performance, and what you put on your lens.
I don't use any of the affiliate programs they provide and insert all of my own. I had a few payments last year, but things have slowed. I think this may be due to the economy, as much as anything else. |

I've done my best to try to bump up the rankings of my lens. Keywords, articles, pinging, socialbook marking and Weebly and Wordpress posts pointing at it. No success with so far for me with Squidoo. On my best lens I got it to #13 for its keyword (low competition) and no more than 8 visits a day. How to get traffic on Squidoo is like trying to guess what Homer Simpson's middle name is. You either know it or you don't. I don't.

Tip 1: Make sure to cloak your affiliate links .. Google doesn't like a bunch of them thrown into a lens. Try offto.net.
Tip 2: Include pictures. A picture is worth a thousand words. Before/After, etc. Tip 3: A YouTube video usually increases conversions. Tip 4: Ping and add to bookmarking sites. Make a few minor changes per day and ping again. This keeps it fresh in Google's eyes. Tip 5: As Bill said, treat it like it's your page. Offer them something of value before you try to sell anything in a lens. Tip 6: Do a search for your keywords. Visit the most popular lenses, steal their tags, and add to yours. This makes your lens show up in their related topics section. Hope this helps. Last edited by wohlfman; 04-29-2009 at 06:08 AM. |
