How Important is Twitter for Backlinks

I have started a new website Travel India Guide and Travel India Tour and have started to market it through PingFm (which generates backlinks to many social networks like twitter.).

Now is Twitter a really helpful tool as the people who follow me dont really go to my website?

Moreover, how can twitter help in improving the rank on the search engines even if you tweet it almost everyday and have a lot of followers.

Are the links posted on Twitter considered as high quality backlinks or not.

Twitter IS valuable. Twitter followers WILL go to your website once you establish relationships with these people "your followers". When you make friends with your social network friends/followers, you'll see the true value of social networks. This isn't an overnight venture. You're not going to establish relationships with 9000 Twitter friends in one week. It's work and it's ongoing. Just the same as building relationships in person with 9000 people doesn't happen overnight. Just remember these are your friends. They added you for a reason. They're interested. Care about them. Make it worth their while to have added you. Get to know them as PEOPLE. Communicate with them. Comment on THEIR tweets, etc.

In my opinion, Twitter is a great way to get exposure to your website. Other than that, the tweets I don't follow too much.

As soon as you follow someone, that individual can take a look at your website if you have one in your profile. To me, this is the best use for Twitter.
