Some people love the in-text ads, but I find they interrupt the flow of information too much. I prefer ads be set in distinctly separate areas on a page.

It all depends on what the goal or purpose of your site is.

If the purpose of the site is to make money from the ads: Then having inline text ads makes total sense.

If the main purpose of the site is to get people to buy your products: Then don't have any ads that distract from that purpose.

After Google invented text based ads (Adsense), people go further with in-text advertising. I believe it's a progress. Visitors still be able to recognize Adsense as ads, as there is label 'ads by Google'. But in-text ads are not like ads at all, till we hover mouse on the anchor text.
But, yeah, if advertisers place too many ads on an article, it will distracts visitors. Especially the in-text ads with double underlined anchor texts.

I had used adsense , adbrite and clicksor. Adsense is the best and the second best is adbrite. In adbrite we have to choose the full sorts of ads in order to earn more. The other adplacement sites include bidvertiser, adversal, bannerconnect etc.

The only time that I have used Adbrite was when I was still running a few proxy sites. I know only use Adsense.
