One of Google’s most recent adventures is called “Social Search”. It’s currently in experiment mode. The way it works is you turn on the experiment. Then when you do a Google search for something, if there are relevant results within your social circle, meaning your twitter friends, your facebook friends, etc., those results will show up at the bottom of your first page of search results.
You can imagine the ramifications of this. You will be able to see products and services which your friends are offering, and they will be able to see products and services that YOU are offering. Watch the video for more specifics and to find out how this experiment can really give small and new business owners a leg up on larger and more established businesses, as well as Bill’s prediction regarding this.
You can join the experiment by going to Google Labs’ experiments page and signing up for one of their experiments. You can only be logged into one experiment at a time, but you can always log out and choose a different one if you like.
