“Does paid traffic increase search engine rank?” This was a question from viewer on the live show.
People sell traffic and people buy traffic. These companies will sell you raw traffic, totally untargeted for your website or niche. This traffic will all be sent directly to your website. This sounds good at first because, after all, it IS traffic and we’re always trying to increase our online traffic. However, this kind of traffic does not convert well or turn into sales. Additionally, this traffic often will hit your page and immediately leave or “bounce”. People sometimes think that this is good because Google will see that lots of people are going to your site. True, Google WILL see this, but they will also see your “bounce rate” or the rate at which people immediately leave your site after arriving there. People bounce a site for several reasons, broken links, difficulty navigating, but most often it happens when the site turns out not to be what they wanted. Misrepresentation in advertising or keywords is a common cause of high bounce rate. Ad said one thing, person clicks on it and the site is about something else. A high bounce rate can definitely negatively affect what Google thinks about your site. If the public don’t like your site, chances are Google wont either, since Google does whatever they can to ensure that website content is valuable and helpful to the consumer.
