1. Choosing Categories Using The Google Wonderwheel, External Keyword Tool & Research
2. Blogging Is Not A Strategy To Blast Out One Way Communication
Blogs can be used purely as an SEO tool (or even a spam tool), but that’s not how we’re currently using it. The purpose of a blog post is to attract interest, inform & kick start a conversation that continues in your comments or over on social media. So it’s a combination of SEO, social media & good old fashion 2 way communication.
3. It’s Important To Reach Out To Other Blogs With Relevant Posts In Their Comments Immediately After Making a Post.
Search in Google’s blog search and filter by recent results. These are people who have already been involved in the online conversation about your blog posts topic. Jump into the conversation & post a comment on their blog (you’ll pick up a backlink at the same time).
4. Invite Comments To Be Posted On Your Own Blog
Encourage users to talk back to you within your post. Invite commentary, feedback or more info in comments. Then be sure to approve them when they are legitimate comments. Watch links in incoming comments for low quality sites & remove the links, trash the comment or mark it as spam. Watch for fake generic “Drive by” comments where someone isn’t really adding to the conversation. Trash or mark these as spam. Respond back to your comments and make it a 2-way communication.
5. Integrate with other marketing channels: video campaigns, press release campaigns, articles, social media & even offline marketing!
If you align what you’re talking about in your blog posts to all your other efforts it will become MUCH more efficient.
6. Super Important: Keyword Research Before You Publish
This is part of how you attract interest and start your conversation. You should target keywords with search volume, but that are not too competitive. This lets your post easily rank.
7. Brainstorm ideas on Google blog search, Google alert, news search or favorite related websites.
8. Give opinions, more information or commentary on what others are talking about.
9. List type posts: “7 Amazing Blogging Tips”, “Top 8 Reasons To Blog”, “Top 10 SEO Blogs”, Etc.
10. Call to action in every post: Either to do business with you, subscribe to your blog, follow you on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Google Buzz, Etc. or at least go check out an affiliate product.
